The Prairie Central Marching Hawks are spending six and a half minutes telling the story of a spider for this year’s marching show, which is based on the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
This show will be full of spider-like motions and is even a bit creepy, according to students.
“It is definitely an interesting show out of all the ones I’ve done,” observes PCHS senior Andrew Rieck. “The music is really good.”
Rieck, who plays the baritone, admits it was a hot week for the PCHS band camp during the past week but he enjoys being around friends.
“I like to see people and do what I love.”
Senior Brooke Johnson has enjoyed band camp. She has been a drum major for the past few years – something she considers a great experience.
“It’s my senior year so it’s kind of sad to leave but I’m still really excited about it,” said Johnson.
She admits the show is a bit different but does have cool music.
“The whole first movement is about the web and the second movement is going to be about the spider eating,” explains PCHS band director Brendan Vincent.
They find a way to squeeze in pretty music and butterflies before everyone sees the spider in the last movement with a surprise ending.
“Every year we pick a show and we write based on the talent we have in the group,” said Vincent.
You’ll have plenty of chances to see the Marching Hawks this fall as they have a full slate of performances, including at the home football games and various competitions over the next few months.
