New Year reflections

Fairbury farmer Jon Goembel poses with his dog last summer at his farm south of town.

(Guest submission by Jon Goembel)

We all know about 2019 – a trying year as most have seen.

March 4th four below. Listen to the tires crunch the frozen snow.

Rains in April, floods in May, caused very real corn planting delays.

Cold, wet rains and floods wait for the sun to dry the mud.

June was drier; planters did roll. The Prevent Plant acres took a toll.

Mid-August the corn was high, like it should have been by the Fourth of July.

Much of the harvest was six weeks late, corn yield good, not great.

Halloween Day we have snow, with harvest a long way to go.

Early December cold and wet. Haven’t seen the end of ’19 yet.

Wishing you well in the coming year.

Respectfully,

Jon Goembel
