A Good Friday tradition which started several years ago continued in Fairbury Friday morning.
The annual Cross Walk, involving many churches in the community, departed from First Presbyterian Church under bright sunshine, heading north to the parking lot across from the First United Methodist Church before returning.
“It commemorates Jesus carrying the cross to Calvary,” explains Kim Ernst, pastor at Faith Fellowship of Fairbury. “There’s a way that it kind of makes it more real.”
The event is open to the entire community each year and, according to Ernst, tends to touch people’s hearts as they are able to take turns carrying the cross along the route.
“It makes us remember He really did all of that for us,” added Ernst.
Those participating paused to share in scripture readings along the way.
In addition to Good Friday Services, many local churches have planned other services and events throughout the Easter weekend.
